A fantastic night was had by both performers and audience on Sunday 21st March for our Annual Charity Concert. The Trinidad Fund was boosted by £291, thanks to everyone for their generous support.
The Mary Wishart Prize was awarded to John Owen, pupil of Sandy Mackay - John has only been playing for just over a year, and in that time has shown strong dedication to playing his drumkit, he played one of his exam pieces from the Rockschool syllabus for the concert attendees.
We had performances from singers, Melissa Duthie, Emma Grant, Donna Emsley, William Sergeant, Nick Innes, Holly Cameron, Nathan Brown with his highly polished backing singers, Natasha Brown, Mo Mackie, Deirdre Adamson, and Holly Cameron, Aileen Kerr, Bill Ogg, Arlene Johnstone, the Blackbird vocal group Accomplished fiddler Emma Simpson played a lovely Scottish Slow Air and Mhairi Parr played a classical piece on Flute - both these instruments caught the beautiful ambient qualities of the Acorn Centre, while pianists Sarah Fisher, David Temple (who also played saxophone) Beth Leil , Eileen Pike (jazz Piano) and Lewis Andrew delighted the audience with some super performances. Thomas Allerton gave a superb rendition of his exam piece for the next session on drumkit while Max Anderson excelled on acoustic guitar with his performance of the Beatles tune Blackbird. The evening was superbly rounded off by a performance from Chameleon one of the Music School Rock Bands with tutor Phil Allen on vocals.
A big thank you to all the tutors as well as performers for the exceptional standard of musicianship - thanks to the many calls/texts of goodwishes that came in on Monday 22nd, your appreciation of what we do very welcome.

The Mary Wishart Achievement Prize will be presented on this night to the most deserving pupil. Tutors will be putting forward names for the award over the next month.
The late Mary Wishart was an ardent follower of Chalmers Mackay when she was alive. Mary taught piano in Edinburgh before moving to Orkney to live in her later years. Each year, at the Annual Charity Concert time, Mary has left provision for the purchase of a Trophy so that the pupil can be recognized for the hard work they have put in over the year.
Pupils are encouraged to come forward and play or sing 2 pieces at this concert, the choice is left up to them, in collaboration with their tutor. All styles of music will be expected.
Tickets for this event will be priced at £6, available at the door.
There will be a raffle on the night and it would be much appreciated if people could bring donations for this. With thanks in advance!
As this is a variety concert we will have a Drumkit and PA set up, and a piano is available. Any amps, leads, music stands or other accessories will need to be brought by the performer.
We hope to have a full house to support our TRINIDAD FUND. With the proceeds from this concert.

Next July 2010 a group of young children from Port of Spain, Trinidad, are coming to the North East to take part in the Aberdeen Youth Festival. Here's how it happened.
In November 2008, Ruby travelled to Trinidad to play at some functions there, and had the opportunity of meeting pupils from the Diamond Vale Government Primary School - under the direction of Yolande Joseph, the youngsters displayed their talents on the steel pans - all of them aged between 9yrs to 13 yrs. They were brilliant!! and Ruby realised they just had to come across to Scotland to let everyone hear them... She duly spoke with Stewart Aitken who organises the Aberdeen Youth Festival, and BINGO!! THEY'RE COMING!!! Last week in July next year....
Chalmers Mackay is sponsoring the retainer for the children, and we have to raise upwards of £3675....
You can help!! Keep an eye on the website here for whats coming up, and come along......
All concerts, performances, events, etc will go towards the Trinidad Sponsorship Fund.
The events are listed here......
I know all our pupils, parents, tutors.... anyone involved with our School, will give freely of their time and money to help this good cause... now check the events......
Ruby

Calum took the initiative and launched into Scotland The Brave and the Crowd took the roof off!! We were asked for an encore, but unfortunately stringent timing rules have to be stuck to at a Festival. That was our 2nd appearance at Wizard.
