Andrew Sellar

I first started playing guitar when I was 16.  Ever since I have been passionate about music, especially guitar.

After leaving school I went to Aberdeen College where I first studied HNC Music and Audio Engineering and I learned about working in a recording studio, live sound mixing and working as a freelancer.

During this course I was encouraged by my classmates and my tutors to apply for the HNC Performance which I did in my 2nd year.  There I learned about stagecraft, music business and music theory.  The band I was in at the time won the opportunity to perform at an award ceremony at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, which is easily the best experience of my musical career so far.

In the 2 years that followed I joined the teaching course at college securing an ICMA Diploma of Music Teaching in Rock Guitar and an ATCL for guitar teaching.  I also achieved my LCM Grade 8 popular music theory and my Grade 8 Rockschool Performance.

Away from the educational side of things, I have played in several bands over the years, the most successful being my Melodic Metal Band called "Legacy".  We played the Lemon Tree and other music venues around Aberdeen for 2 years.  I am open to all styles of music including Rock, Pop, Blues, Funk and have even played in a Classical Guitar quartet.  I am passionate about the guitar as an instrument and have an extensive knowledge of the instruments make-up.

In my spare time I enjoy various pursuits including snowboarding, football and martial arts.  To relax I enjoy writing and composing music, playing video games and hanging out with my friends.

As regards my teaching I specialize in various forms of Metal and Hard rock styles, although I enjoy and teach a multitude of styles of music.  I like to keep my lessons as relaxed as possible, with great emphasis on having fun and getting the most out of the individual student, whilst still encouraging the pupil to challenge themselves (and me!), so if you want to be the next Rock Legend or if you simply want to have fun and learn guitar for your own enjoyment then I look forward to meeting you.
