Avril Nixon
My name is Avril Nixon and I am married with two children, called Matthew and Cameron. I started singing and playing the piano at quite a young age and for 12 years I participated in the Inverclyde Music Festival both as a soloist and with school choirs. However, when I was 17 years old I moved to Aberdeen to study and I did not have the time then to continue with my music. After leaving college I worked and at one time I was employed by Aberdeen City Council (as it was then) at the Music Hall where I stayed for three years. Later, I married and had my children but I decided to return to college in 2005 to study music and I attended Aberdeen College. Despite being the oldest in the class (!!) I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the course. I am still continuing my singing lessons with my teacher from college as I wish to sit a recital examination in the near future. I have also participated in thew North East of Scotland Music Festival for the last two years and have been in the Oratorio Class, Scots Class, Duet Class and the Open Class. Hopefully, I will enter the festival again this year. I am now thoroughly enjoying my teaching and I teach singing lessons and (beginner) piano lessons.
