Ruth Hardie

I was educated at Cults Academy where I learned to play the violin from the age of 8 years. After school, I studied art at Grays School Of Art in Aberdeen, then went on to study Nursing and Psychiatry at Aberdeen.

In 1995 after turning down pupils for some time, I began some teaching from home and in 1995-'96 I attended Aberdeen College part-time and sat Higher music, obtaining an ‘A' pass. In 1997-'98 I returned to Aberdeen College where I sat and attained a Diploma in Violin teaching (Associate of the London College of Music Teachers Diploma) and in 1998-‘99 I sat and attained the LLCM Principles of Teaching Paper.

Having worked as a staff nurse since 1988, I gave this up in 2007 to teach full time.

I started at the Chalmers Mackay Music School in August 1999. My interest in traditional music began whilst working in Eire immediately after finishing school and has grown from that time. I have played at folk clubs and between 1993 and 1995 played with a Ceilidh dance band, travelling all over Scotland, with some gigs in France and Norway. I now work with an accordionist as a duo, ‘Clatterin Kist', playing and dance calling for ceilidhs and weddings. I have been a tutor at "Feis Spe" on a couple of occasions.

Apart from playing music, I also have an interest in Rescue Dogs; I currently have one Rescue dog. Organic gardening is another important hobby and cooking with my home produced vegetables. I am a keen walker, and horse rider having at various times worked part-time in stables, both riding and teaching, as well as taking out treks. My hill walking successes include Ben Nevis and Ben Macduie!
